The Thousand Islands Playhouse has been presenting professional live theatre for over 35 years and is home to the Studio ‘S’ music series, hosted by Eric Friesen. Known as Canada’s Dockside Theatre, the Playhouse is located on the beautiful banks of the St. Lawrence River in Gananoque, ON.
Eric Friesen hosts Studio ‘S’, an intimate concert and conversation series featuring world-renowned classical musicians. Friesen is an internationally renowned music writer and past host of the long-running CBC Radio series “Studio Sparks.” Friesen makes the evening an engaging and enlightening experience as he speaks with the artists about their experiences and their relationship with classical music.
For July in January 2022, Friesen has chosen an exclusive Studio ‘S’ concert of chamber music with violinist Mark Fewer and friends in a special string quintet featuring the music of Beethoven and Mozart. Mark’s former student, violinist and actor Kenny Wong (of NBC/CTV’s Transplant) joins with a special story of coping with Focal Dystonia. Also joining in are violists Douglas McNabney and Scott Chancey, as well as cellist Carmen Bruno.
DYSTONIA is a short film and captivating story based on violinist Kenny Wong’s real life experience being diagnosed with Focal Hand Dystonia: a neurological movement disorder causing the muscles of Kenny’s hand to involuntarily contract while studying at McGill University. The emotional chaos that resulted from this is depicted as he tries to get a handle on his injury.
